Writing checklists support students develop as independent writers by reminding them. These checklists also allow students to set their own goals and monitor progress in their own writing. Specific checklist items are scaffolded into the categories of essential, important, and advanced to support differentiation. The the checklists are divided into Ideas, Organization, and Craft so that they can support students throughout the writing process rather than simply being used at the end.
